Peshala Manoj

 

Peshala Manoj, widely regarded as Sri Lanka’s leading tabla maestro, is a versatile musician, composer, singer, lyricist, TV presenter, and lecturer. Born in Colombo’s Dematagoda area to a non-musical family, he discovered his passion for tabla early and began training under Guru P.V. Nandasiri at age 12. In 2000, he moved to India’s Bhatkhande College of Music in Lucknow, where he completed his B.Mus and M.Mus (Nipun Masters) degrees after nearly eight years of rigorous study.

He has performed internationally, innovated with DJ sets and concerts, and serves as a long-time presenter and judge on TV Derana shows. He also lectures in music at the University of the Visual & Performing Arts.

Married to popular TV presenter Purnika Peiris since 2019, the couple has a young son and maintains an active social media presence across YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook. Peshala continues to be a dynamic force in Sri Lankan music.
